Do you ever experience times when you just want to stop and scream, “I need a break!”? Life gets so busy. And most of the time, you can’t just walk away and say, “I’m done now”. But, you can make a habit of taking a time out, even just for 2 minutes, to “reboot”. I set an alarm on my phone for 11:30 am and 2:45 pm and I just stop and take a few deep breaths, close my eyes and think of something that makes me smile (usually my dog or something I have planned with a friend). Everyone has a routine so don’t pick a time when you know you’ll be too busy to take a short break (like when you’re cooking dinner or helping the kids with homework). But you will probably notice that by doing this a few times a day, you are actually more productive. You’ll get something done more quickly than you anticipated or you’ll get a jump on something that was meant to be done tomorrow.
A good time for a time out is when you’re waiting in line at the bank, grocery store, post office, or waiting for a doctor’s appointment. But make it intentional. Make it your time! Wouldn’t it be great if more people would do this when just waiting in line anyway? Instead of thinking about how the bank should have more than 2 tellers or the post office clerks shouldn’t be going on break when there are 15 people in line, take the time out opportunity to breathe and focus on something that makes you happy.
